| San Miguel de Allende's nearest international airport is the Guanajuato International Airport (BJX), located 70 miles from San Miguel in Leon. There are no direct flights to Leon from most U.S. cities but American offers connecting service through Dallas/Ft. Worth, Continental through Houston, Delta through Atlanta and Mexicana flies direct and non-stop from Los Angeles.
San Miguel is a one and a half hour drive from the airport in Leon. Most of the B&B's, hotels and house rentals offer shuttle service or will arrange for a car or van to and from the airport for around $27 per person. Or you can make a reservation on-line at:
You can also fly into Mexico City which is a four hour drive north to San Miguel. United and US Airways offer non-stop service from Washington, DC.
San Miguel is ideal for walking so renting a car is not recommended. Taxis are plentiful and cheap. Drivers are pleasant and many speak English. The normal flat fare in the Centro area is $1.50 or $3.00 if you call ahead of time and higher after 10:00 p.m. Fares to outlying areas for day trips can be negotiated and should be agreed upon before departure.
